Learning Observed
| ||
A popular learning activity with many of the LH6 learners is our ‘Writing’ Challenge’. It begins
with a writing prompt and the learners are given up to 20 minutes to write about anything, so long as it connects in some way with the prompt. The learners enjoy being given the opportunity to express their ideas in writing - especially when it is for an authentic audience.
After writing, we pair the learners up and they share their writing with each other. After each pair
has decided who has written the best piece, they then join up with another pair and the ‘winners’ each read their writing to each other. This process repeats itself until eventually there are two groups - each with the ‘winning’ piece of writing.
There is much excitement between the learners as they compete against each other in the writing
challenge - cheering on the members in their team and debating who has the winning piece of writing. During this time, the learning coaches encourage collaboration between the learners to listen carefully each other and ensure that they choose fairly - not just because the writer is their friend. | ||
Evidence of Learning
| ||
Today, Shokrullah’s writing was enjoyed by his peers. He made it all the way to the final challenge
against Cindy… and won!
Shokrullah is reading his story while being supported by his ‘team’.
